About Us

Norwich Deaf Youth Club was set up in 2003 by a group of Deaf youths who felt that there was a missing gap in the local community. They decided that a new club would help to create activities and opportunities for Deaf youths living in and around Norwich.

The need for such a club has been proven by its ongoing success to this day. We hold a weekly youth club near Chapelfield in Norwich, with a programme of events specifically designed with youths who have a hearing loss in mind. NDYC regularly goes out and about around Norfolk for a variety of activities.

There are a range of members attending the club, all from different backgrounds, with a mix of hearing loss and communication needs. While the club was set up for for Deaf youths, we welcome hearing youth who have an interest in deafness. For example, hearing youths who have a deaf family member, school classmate, friend, or is interested in deafness.

We're always on the lookout for new members. Have a look at our membership page to see who can become a member. We'd be very pleased to see new people arrive and enjoy our activities!

We have a team of volunteer leaders and helpers, who give up their time generously to help the club continue its success. Most of them have a hearing loss themselves, so can relate well to deaf youths and their individual needs. By having a hearing loss and experience of being deaf youths themselves at one point in the past, they are fully aware of the barriers and difficulties deaf people sometimes face socially but work hard to make sure we overcome these problems and show that with a little understanding and awareness, Deaf youths can enjoy activities just like anyone else.

All our activities and events rely completely on donations and fundraising activities. We have a small annual membership fee and weekly entry fee to help towards this, but there is a big funding gap left which the leaders and helpers work hard to find money for. We're always on the lookout for help and support, so if you're able to help by either making a donation, or giving up your time to help us with our fundraising activities, we'd be very grateful to hear from you.
